DESCRIPTION
- perfect for gourmet dishes
- Protein source
- a source of dietary fiber
Native to North America, wild rice is mainly grown in the United States, Canada, but also Australia and Hungary. In fact, it is not one of the rice varieties, but a different kind of panacea.
A single grain of wild rice is elongated, shiny, and black-brown in color. It tastes more intense than most types of rice we know and has a slightly different nutritional value. Wild rice contains twice the protein of white rice and at least twice the fiber. Wild rice is also low in fat and contains minerals such as zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper, potassium and iron. It is also rich in B vitamins and vitamin K.
The taste of wild rice is more pronounced with a slightly nutty note. It goes well with vegetarian dishes, meat and fish dishes, but also goes well with salads and soups.
