Milk thistle is an herb that was used in ancient Greece and Rome and is still popular today. Milk thistle or Sylibum marianum belongs to the Asteraceae family. It comes from regions of the Mediterranean Sea, Southern Europe, North Africa and regions of Asia like India and Pakistan. It is an annual plant that flowers from July to August. Wild specimens can be found in Poland. The flowers are purple in color and the plant can grow up to 2 meters tall.
The main active ingredient it is known for is silymarin. However, it should be noted that it is also a source of flavonoids, phytosterols, vitamins such as vitamins C and K, histamine, tyramine, tannins, mineral salts and a high content of linoleic acid. Silymarin protects against substances that can damage liver cells. It supports regeneration and can help to detoxify the body. It also affects the production of new liver cells. It can help reduce bilirubin, which is a pigment that affects the yellow tint of the skin and eyeballs. Sylibym Marianum can help with the negative effects of traveling by car or boat, as well as with loss of appetite. Along with vitamin C, flavonoids have an antioxidant effect. They remove free radicals in the body that can negatively affect the human body. They also have a protective effect on the body's cells. They support the immune system, have a positive effect on the condition of the skin and can inhibit the aging process.
Milk thistle oil is obtained by cold pressing milk thistle seeds (Silybum marianum L.). The selection of the highest quality raw materials is the key to success alongside the most modern pressing technology. Ripe, shiny and optimally formed - this is the best raw material for pressing such valuable oil. Low pressing temperature (not exceeding 40°C) allows to preserve the main active ingredients in this oil.
Milk thistle oil is characterized by a high content of unsaturated fats (80 g / 100 g). In addition, it contains natural plant sterols (β-sitosterol 38% and Δ 7 -stigmasterol 22%).
Linoleic acid (LA) and plant sterols and stanols contribute to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.
Maintaining good health requires a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Milk thistle oil is a fine, rather tasteless oil. So it will not dominate the taste of salads or dishes. Because it is a 100% natural product, the intensity of taste, color and smell of the oil can vary in individual parts of the product.
