Long turmeric, also known as Indian saffron, and commonly known as turmeric, is a plant of the ginger family that grows wild in India and is cultivated in tropical climates. This plant produces a spice and a yellow dye called curcumin.
Turmeric is an essential ingredient in spice blends like curry.
Turmeric colors the dishes to which it is added, giving them a yellow and pleasant spicy flavor. It also stains cutlery (especially wood and plastic) used to pick up and mix with.
In the food industry, turmeric is used to color butter, mayonnaise, pasta, and cheese.
