Leeks (Allium ampeloprasum L.) are a biennial species of the allium family Amaryllis (garlic subfamily), native to Asia Minor. This tasty and healthy vegetable was known and cultivated in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome and came to Poland from Italy in the Middle Ages thanks to Queen Bona.
Leeks are a plant rich in vitamins - A, from group B , C, E and K - and minerals - calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc. It is low in calories, only about 30 per 100g. When consumed regularly, it can have slimming, detoxifying, hypotensive, and disease-preventing properties.
To make the leeks more digestible, it is worth heating them up.
