Green beans are a type of bean belonging to the common broad bean family. This annual plant, whose pods are so popular when in season, is native to Central and South America. Grown all over the world, including in Poland, as a vegetable from the group of so-called legumes, green beans are an ingredient in many dishes.
Green beans are one of the healthier vegetables that we can include in our diet. Rich in protein, fiber, vitamins - from groups B, E, A, K and C - and mineral salts - calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium - green beans are divided into two types - green and yellow. Green is characterized by higher levels of beta-carotene and folic acid, while yellow has higher levels of phosphorus and potassium.
Green beans are a very versatile vegetable. Most often it is combined with breadcrumbs, but it also goes well with meat, potatoes, rice, eggs, as an addition to soups and salads.
