Formaldehyde reacts with proteins, causes their denaturation, fights bacterial spores, their vegetative forms and fungi. As a feed additive, it is used as a preservative and silage additive. Formalin binds less to organic substances than other disinfectants, therefore its solutions are effective against microorganisms. Formalin can be used for disinfection and disinfection. It is used in the chemical and plastics industries. It is also involved in the manufacture of paper. In museums it is used to preserve paintings. In laboratories it is used for the preservation and storage of biological preparations, as well as for the disinfection of tools.
