Quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill.) is a perennial woody plant of the rose family. This inconspicuous fruit, which resembles an apple or a pear, probably comes from the areas of Asia Minor, Southeast Arabia, Transcaucasia, Iran or Turkestan; It was probably brought to Europe, in Poland it is partially grown.
It is not advisable to eat quinces raw, as they then become hard and bitter. Only through heat treatment do they acquire a fine, exquisite taste with a hint of sweetness. In ancient Greece, quince was considered an aphrodisiac and is rich in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. The high content of vitamin C, which supports immunity, makes it a unique fruit, a delicacy created to be enjoyed in autumn and winter, slightly acidic, refreshing taste makes it impossible to eat the quince even in summer forget.
The quince fruit is a delicious addition to desserts, teas and cakes. They are also suitable as an ingredient or base for jam, syrup or jelly.
