The only place on earth where this wonderful plant grows is the Kalahari Desert in southwest Africa. In this extremely dry area, with practically no vegetation, the devil's claw had to develop a special root system to retain moisture. When she grows to a depth of 120 cm, she branches out into a bunch of tuberous roots resembling potatoes. 100 kilograms of these roots result in six kilograms of raw material containing active ingredients.
It owes its name to the appearance of thorny pods that develop from bright red flowers. Like devil's claws, these pods are so strong that you have to pry them out of the animals' hooves with pliers. Each root is individually dug up, sliced, dried and grated. The result is a sticky substance that is difficult to handle.
Devil's claw has anti-inflammatory properties and relieves all types of pain. It also works great as an antioxidant. It prevents stress and reduces cell viability loss.
