Pea (Lathyrus L.) is a plant of the legume family. It occurs mainly in the northern hemisphere in the temperate zone. Known for thousands of years, it made its way to Europe in the Middle Ages and its popularity continued at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Compared to other vegetables, peas are characterized by their high protein and fiber content, which makes them extremely valuable in a vegetarian diet. Aside from that, these sweet, green beans are high in vitamins - A, K, C, E, folic acid, niacin, thiamin - and minerals - potassium, iron, manganese, selenium, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium.
It tastes great on its own or as an accompaniment to vegetable salads. You can also use it to prepare a delicious creamy soup.
