ALC (Acetyl-L-Carnitine) supports energy metabolism at the cellular level, supports the work of the mitochondria and crosses the blood-brain barrier and protects against oxidative damage.
Acetyl-L-carnitine is an endogenous compound of the mitochondrial membrane that helps maintain mitochondrial bioenergy and decreases the increase in oxidative stress associated with aging. Both Acetyl L-Carnitine and L-Carnitine are absorbed into the bloodstream. Both compounds effectively transport long-chain fatty acids across the cell membrane to the mitochondria, where they are burned for energy and used efficiently by cells. Acetyl-L-carnitine also penetrates the blood-brain barrier and protects against oxidative damage. Amyloid beta peptide is a major component of platelets and is thought to contribute to the aging process. Acetyl-L-carnitine has a protective effect against such neurotoxicity and oxidative stress. Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) readily crosses the blood-brain barrier and has the potential to exert neuroprotective, neuromodulating, and neurotrophic effects. ALC may support youthful memory functions, improve mitochondrial structure and function, inhibit age-related oxidative damage, and restore key enzyme activity.
