Cherry is a plant of the rose family. His place of birth is probably Japan, from where it originated around the 5th century BC. traveled to Greece via the Silk Road and gradually spread across the continent.
Especially revered are the trees on the Japanese islands, which bear a sweet-tart fruit and have previously been sprinkled with delicate white or pink flowers. Two weeks a year (the period more or less coinciding with the blossoming of the cherry tree) the Japanese celebrate hanami, which literally translates to "observe blossoms", then also in the shade of the cherry trees big festivals and parades as more intimate family gatherings, parties and picnics.
Cherries are exceptionally healthy fruits, they are characterized, among other things, by high content of iron, vitamin C, tannins, pectin and vitamin B8, which prevents graying. Eating cherries frequently can lower bad cholesterol levels and reduce the amount of belly fat. Cherries are also rich in antioxidants that support the body in its fight for health and beauty.
Cherries are a great snack and an irreplaceable addition to many cakes and desserts. They are also good as a base for preserves, compotes, juices and syrups; also goes perfectly with meat.
