Saffron is a spice that has been used in cooking and medicine for at least 5,000 years. Interestingly, it takes up to 150,000 stigmas of these flowers to get 1kg of spice. Its taste is described as spicy, slightly hot, musky and bitter, and above all very intense.
Saffron contains numerous trace elements and vitamins such as: potassium, copper, zinc, folic acid, vitamins C and A, as well as numerous antioxidants.
The taste of saffron enriches both European and oriental dishes. It is perfect as a seasoning for: fish dishes and soups, seafood, Spanish, Indian and Turkish dishes, rice and pasta dishes, alcoholic liqueurs, cakes, e.g. E.g. apple pie.
