Broad bean or vetch (Vicia faba L.) is an edible annual plant of the legume family. Previously found in the wild, they are now only found as a cultivated plant. Its place of origin is unknown, but the oldest traces pointing to the cultivation of this tasty and healthy legume come from Egypt from about 4 ½ 000. lat.
Like soybeans, field beans are recommended for vegetarians and vegans due to their high protein and fiber content. In addition, these green, flat beans with a slightly sweet, slightly nutty taste convince with an impressive content of vitamins and minerals; are rich in iron, manganese, copper, vitamins C, E, A, K, thiamine and riboflavin, among others. Because of their low fat content and low calorie content, broad beans are also recommended as an ingredient in slimming diets.
Broad beans can be dried, frozen and eaten fresh. To reduce the risk of bloating after consumption, soak the beans in hot water for an hour before cooking.
