Lime or lime is a citrus fruit from the rue family whose properties and nutritional values have long been valued in Asia, where it likely originated . From Asia, linden trees were brought to Egypt and other regions of North Africa by Middle Eastern merchants in the 10th century. In the 13th century, the Moors brought lime to Spain, thanks to which the fruit spread to southern Europe. Limes first made their way to America during Christopher Columbus' voyage in 1493, but didn't really stay in Florida until the 16th century, when they were brought from the West Indies by Spanish colonizers. Lime is currently grown in tropical and subtropical zones, mainly in India, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil, as well as in Europe, Egypt and Florida.
