The cocoa beans used to make chocolate come from cocoa trees. This plant grows wild in the regions of Central America and South America. Cacao is rich in many health-promoting nutrients. They contain flavonoids in their composition; mainly catechins and epicatechins. It is a source of minerals such as magnesium, iron, selenium, zinc, potassium, chromium and manganese. It also contains theobromine, which stimulates the body, and phenylethylamine, which belongs to the endorphins group. This is one of the reasons why eating chocolate has a positive effect on our mood.
