Roman cumin ( Cuminum cyminum L.), also known as cumin, Egyptian cumin, cumin bug , or simply cumin, is a species of annual plant in the celery family, probably native to the eastern Mediterranean region, and an aromatic spice used since ancient times. Roman cumin, which has always been used, is often confused with caraway ( Carum carvi L.), but is different, the size and color of the seeds and the oriental aroma. Due to the high content of iron, vitamins C and A, cumin can support the immune system and help the body fight colds. Recommended for meat, soups, fish, stews, rice, groats, bread and cakes. It also works as an addition to sauerkraut.
