Silver nitrate is used as an electrolyte ingredient for silver plating, spray chrome, and photography. Nitrate can be used in a chemical laboratory to extract other silver compounds or in analytical chemistry to detect aldehydes during the Tollens test. It is also used to silver mirrors and to obtain silver halides, e.g. Silver bromide used as a light-sensitive material in photography.
