Barberry occurs wild in Europe, it has settled mainly in Scandinavia and the British Isles, in southern and central Germany it is rare and widespread.
Barberry is known for its saponins, which aid in the digestive system and have diuretic properties. It also contains organic acids, pectins, and vitamins C and E, which act as antioxidants. The high content of vitamin C in its composition led to the fact that it received the name of the Polish lemon. Barberry improves digestion, supports immunity and has antibacterial properties. It is also used as a liver support. It also has a calming effect and increases stress resistance.
Barberry is not recommended for pregnant women and young children.
