Blackberries, less commonly known as rose hips or spikelets (Rubus L.), are plants of the rose family. It can be found in forests, groves, wastelands and on benches, but also along roads, or grows in home gardens or allotments.
These sweet and tart fruits with a deep, mysterious aroma are a treasure trove of nutrients and antioxidants. Among other things, blackberry is rich in vitamins – C, E, K – and minerals – potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium.
Though most commonly eaten raw, blackberries are also a great base for preserves, an addition to cakes, desserts, and even meat. High in stomach-filling and long-lasting fiber and pectin, these fruits make an excellent snack for people trying to lose weight.
