Artichoke is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family. It originated in the Mediterranean region but is now cultivated throughout Europe and North America. Appreciated in ancient Greece, it has recently become popular in Poland.
Artichoke is best known for its health benefits. It can help maintain proper cholesterol levels in the body, it also has a beneficial effect on the circulatory and digestive systems. It is a scaly vegetable with a shade of green between olive and grass, characterized by its unique wealth of nutrients, including vitamins: A, B, C, E and K and mineral salts: calcium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, potassium and iron.
Artichokes are great both as a main course and as a healthy snack. Also recommended for salads, soups and sauces.
