Linseed oil is a product that can be called our Polish superfood. Its valuable properties were already appreciated in ancient times. This oil is pressed from the seeds of common flaxseed. It has a yellow color, a pungent odor and a specific taste.
This oil is pressed at a temperature below 50 degrees Celsius. This is a necessary condition as the nutritional values of the oil that are important to us have been preserved. It mainly affects fatty acids.
This oil has the right ratio of omega fatty acids for our body. It contains unsaturated fatty acids, which are very important for our body because we cannot synthesize them ourselves and therefore have to get them from food. Omega-3 and omega-6 in the right ratio have a positive effect on the cardiovascular system. These polyunsaturated fatty acids affect the condition of the membranes of all cells in our body. They also take part in the synthesis of many processes affecting the circulatory system, its regulation and regeneration.
In addition, linseed oil has a positive effect on the work of internal organs and increases immunity. It helps to alleviate skin problems, supports skin moisture and increases its resistance to external environmental influences. It also contains high levels of vitamin E, which is an antioxidant. It is called the vitamin of youth because it slows down the aging processes and by removing free radicals from our body, it has a beneficial effect on the body as a whole, protecting it from many diseases. This vitamin affects the proper functioning of vision, and its deficiency can increase susceptibility to infections.
Diet Flaxseed Oil can be used in salads, breads, smoothies and fruit smoothies. However, it should be remembered that this oil should not be heated so that it does not lose its nutritional value.
Linseed oil can also be used externally. It is an ingredient in many cosmetic products, but we can also apply it directly to the skin to lubricate and massage the skin and hair. It helps to alleviate skin problems, supports skin moisture and increases its resistance to external environmental influences. It moisturizes the hair and helps against split ends.
Linseed oil should be stored refrigerated. Valuable omega-3 acids are very unstable and oxidize easily if the products containing them are not stored under appropriate conditions. It should be stored in the refrigerator, preferably in a dark glass and protected from light. Oils that are low in linolenic content, meaning they contain very little omega-3 fats and a lot of omega-6 fats, unfortunately don't have the same health-promoting properties as the linolenic-rich variety.
