Chinese cabbage or short Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa L. subsp. pekinensis) is an annual plant and a subspecies of the cabbage family. It comes from the northern parts of China and Japan. Although it is well known today and a frequent guest at our tables, it did not reach Europe and the United States until the 1930s. It grows in many temperate parts of the world.
Chinese cabbage is a low-calorie vegetable, in one hundred grams it contains about 40 calories. It is high in fiber and differs from vegetables in its high protein content. It contains the same amount of vitamin C as lemon, plus it contains vitamins B, E, K and A.
