Acetylsalicylic acid ( acidum acetylsalicylicum span>) is colloquially referred to as aspirin. It is a derivative of salicylic acid, obtained by reacting salicylic acid with acetic anhydride and a catalyst in the form of sulfuric or phosphoric acid. It is a white powder with a crystalline structure. It is slightly soluble in water and readily soluble in ethyl alcohol and diethyl ether. In agriculture, the product is used to increase the resistance of plants.
